The University of Oklahoma, in collaboration with the Professional Fellows Program (PFP) sponsored by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), is excited to announce the Alumni Summit 2025, a two-day gathering of alumni from across South Asia and beyond. This summit is a regional showcase of alumni impact and an unparalleled opportunity to multiply connections and inspire future change.
About the Summit
This exclusive event will bring together University of Oklahoma Professional Fellows Program alumni from Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Over the past 12 years, these mid-level professionals have worked together to foster economic empowerment, leadership development, and entrepreneurial growth in their communities.

Minhaz Anwar
Minhaz, Chief StoryTeller at BetterStories Limited, is an active innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem builder in Asia. He has built and delivered several platforms, accelerators, and competitions like Bangladesh Angels Network, TekSHOI (Technology in Social, Humanitarian and Open Innovation), Bangladesh StartUp Cup, ScaleUp Bangladesh, Accelerate Bangladesh, Make-A-Thon Bangladesh and the Spring Accelerator. He has led Grameenphone Accelerator (2016-2022), the State of Social Enterprise in Bangladesh Study for British Council (2015-16) and Mapping Private Sector Interest in Inclusive Business Survey for Asian Development Bank (2011-12).
Minhaz has held several advisory and board level positions such as with the World StartUp Cup (headquartered in USA), Bangladesh Angel Network and the Future Strategy Group. He is an active mentor with the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara University. He is also New England Impact Investing Initiative Fellow.
Before founding BetterStories Limited, a premium future building agency that works in the areas of Smart Technology, Strategic Consulting and StartUp Ecosystem Building, Minhaz had about a decade of experience in Advertising and Development. He had worked for the Governments of Bangladesh, Australia and UK, UNICEF, BRAC and Leo Burnett prior to setting up BetterStories in 2008/9. He is the recipient of the Junior Chamber International Ten Outstanding Young Persons (JCI TOYP) Award in 2015 for his outstanding contribution on entrepreneurship and recently cited by Techsauce as one of the “Tech Ecosystem Builders in Asia that you should know”.

Joy Shahriar is a Bangladeshi Singer, Songwriter based in Dhaka. As a songwriter the “Urban Romanticism” is the strength of his creations.
With over two decades of unwavering dedication to music, Joy has collaborated with the biggest names from both Bengals. He’s the genius behind chart-toppers like “Shotti Bolchhi”, “Tomake Ashtei Hobe”, “Ami Nei” and more.

Pavitra Gautam
Pavitra was the kind of kid who loved to experiment and face challenges. This same attitude led him to become a programmer, a robot maker, an entrepreneur, and a teacher. He likes to call himself an engineer by education, an entrepreneur by profession, and an educator by passion.
He loves to solve problems and work in teams. Being the CEO at Karkhana has allowed him to turn his passion into his daily life. Through Karkhana, Pavitra aims to create a platform that bridges real life and the classroom using maker-based education, fostering critical learners for the 21st century and having a significant impact on education.
He was awarded the Nabil Skill Hero in 2020 in the field of Science and Technology and was also recognized as one of the “10 People to Watch” in education by Business 360 Magazine in 2020. Additionally, he was named among the “40 Under 40” by Onlinekhabar, a national news agency.
Pavitra is also active as an Executive Member of the National Governing Council. He previously served as the Startup Committee Chair of the Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs Forum (NYEF) and is currently contributing as the Digital and Data Strategy Chair. Through NYEF, he has been dedicated to growing Nepal’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Sajid Ali
Bio:
Sajid Ali is a social entrepreneur and founder of The Learners’ Tree (TLT), a nonprofit organization focused on educational and environmental challenges, as well as youth empowerment, in rural Sindh, Pakistan. A former Professional Fellow from the University of Oklahoma (2019), Sajid has driven impactful change by creating an LMS system to provide 70+ courses in local languages, broadening educational access across Sindh. His collaborations with the British Council to promote English language learning earned him multiple awards, while his climate awareness campaigns have mobilized 250+ youth leaders to initiate sustainable projects in their communities.
As a public speaker and trainer, Sajid has led numerous workshops on public speaking, career development, and climate resilience. His work emphasizes community-driven solutions, reinforcing his commitment to poverty reduction, quality education, and environmental sustainability. Sajid’s leadership exemplifies his belief in collaboration over competition, a perspective he gained through his Fellowship experience and actively shares in his community.

Dr. Bishal Dhakal
“Health at Home,” an innovative integrated healthcare service delivery platform, started as an idea 15 years ago in 2009. It soon transformed into a healthcare service delivery innovation and quickly evolved into an inspiring service model. For this contribution, “Health at Home” was awarded the Surya Nepal Social Entrepreneurship Award (SNASEA-2012). In recognition of his work in service delivery innovation, Dr. Bishal Dhakal received an exchange fellowship in 2014 from the U.S. State Department, allowing him to travel to the United States and gain experience in the U.S. healthcare system. “Health at Home” was also recognized as the best community development program in a poster competition in Washington, D.C., in 2014. Dr. Dhakal represented Nepali youth in entrepreneurship during the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) at Stanford University in 2016 as a special GES+ delegate. He has been globally recognized for promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, participating in the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) in Turkey and Bahrain in 2018 and 2019.
Dr. Dhakal’s involvement in healthcare system development has positively impacted thousands of families and created over 15,000 active jobs in the healthcare market in a short period. What began as informal support for families has become an organized industry, now one of the fastest-growing healthcare service segments in the community.
As part of the Nepalese Youth Entrepreneurship Federation (NYEF), Dr. Dhakal actively participates in entrepreneurship activities across Nepal, providing lectures, coaching, and mentorship. He serves on the boards of new enterprises and social initiatives both in Nepal and internationally. For his work, he was invited to speak at a local TED Talk event. He is also involved in various charity and philanthropic initiatives. Notably, he played a key role during the 2015 earthquake, mobilizing over 3,000 youth volunteers to create “Operation Relief” in collaboration with FNCCI. This initiative was operational within 24 hours of the earthquake and earned him the title of Nepali Resilience Hero, or “Nepali Yuva Ratna.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Dhakal managed his caseload at “Health at Home” while also engaging in numerous philanthropic initiatives. His recent initiatives include a telephone-based triage solution with Nepal’s private cellular provider, NCell, which helps to counsel and reassure individuals to avoid unnecessary hospital visits. He also launched the “Nepal Ventilator Bank” to prepare for potential ICU equipment shortages if COVID-19 cases surge and ventilator demand increases. His strategies focus on building a resilient society, enhancing community healthcare capacity, and supporting government efforts.
Dr. Dhakal has studied in six countries and speaks five languages. He is married and lives with his two children in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Farhana Rashid
Bio: With the vision to end the public toilet crisis in Bangladesh, Farhana Rashid initiated her start-up ‘Bhumijo’. Bhumijo is a social enterprise that is working to ensure hygienic and tech enabled public toilets for all. In her current role, she focuses on system designing and managing hygienic and secure public toilets, ensuring accessibility for all, especially women. With a background in architecture from BUET and a Master’s in Sustainable Urban Planning and Design from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, she integrates expertise in gender-sensitive planning, placemaking, and public health. Farhana is committed to transforming urban spaces into safe, inclusive environments through innovative design and strategic public facility management.

Hunny Bhagchandani is the founder of Torchit, a pioneering social enterprise dedicated to developing inclusive assistive technology solutions. With a mission to empower people with disabilities, Hunny has worked tirelessly to make innovations accessible and affordable for underserved communities. His contributions to the field have earned him fellowships from prestigious institutions like MIT Media Lab and the Royal Academy of Engineering, as well as a National Award from the President of India, Forbes 30U30. Featured on Shark Tank India and various global platforms, including the UN, Hunny is a first-generation entrepreneur committed to transforming lives through technology and advocacy for disability equality.

Jagruti Bista
Jagruti Bista is a startup executive with 7 years of experience in building and scaling startup programs with a diverse set of stakeholders in emerging economies. She is currently the Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Hindsight Ventures – an Africa-focused startup accelerator and entrepreneurship support organization. Additionally, she is a Managing Director- Programs at Startup Réseau, wherein she looks after New Business Initiatives. Jagruti is a Commerce Graduate from Mumbai University. Having started her career with FingPay, a venture backed FinTech startup catering to financial access, while she was still in pursuing her graduation – Jagruti made a career switch, after recognising that her inner calling was to support entrepreneurship by being an enabler. Jagruti is an IDEX Fellow ‘22 and an alumnus of the prestigious U.S. Department of State funded Professional Fellows Program. In 2021, Jagruti was recognized for her work as Women Leader in the Entrepreneur category by “Billennium Diva’s” at the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Randhula de Silva
Randhula de Silva thrives in the unconventional and drive systemic change across sectors that enable individuals and whole ecosystems to grow, consciously. Her work stands at the intersection of people, creativity, and the old and new economies.
She’s the Founder and CEO of GoodLife X, where she spearheaded co-authoring and publication of THRIVE Canvas. Known for her innovative and impactful approaches in economic development and social transformation, she also serves as an Independent Director of Trace Expert City, National Innovation Agency and Chitrasena Vajira Dance Foundation.
Previously, Randhula was the inaugural CEO of Hatch Works, the Chief Disruptor of the GIZ SME sector development program, and the head of Information Intelligence Services at Verite Research. She holds a Master’s in Development Planning and a BBA from the University of Colombo and is a Chevening Research, Science, and Innovation Leadership Fellow from the University of Oxford. In addition to her professional path in innovation, Randhula is a passionate advocate and promoter of arts, and has curated festivals, creative fellowships, produced local songs, a TV series, and a Sri Lankan feature film.
Her interests include dynamics of ‘new power’ movements, human transformation and consciousness, the integration of innovation with Eastern philosophies, and the pursuit of wellbeing and a good life.

Yumna Iftikhar
Yumna Iftikhar is a catalyst for innovation and economic growth in Pakistan, currently working at the National Incubation Center Quetta. She has enabled a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem by securing multiple grants to design and manage impactful incubation and entrepreneurship programs for startups, MSMEs, Afghan refugees, and local communities. Currently, she is managing a startup program awarding grants to SDG-focused businesses, a women’s entrepreneurship program, and a microenterprise program for Afghan refugees and host communities.
With an 18-year academic background and distinction in her research, Yumna is currently pursuing “Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies” virtually through Harvard Business School. She has collaborated with leading organizations globally for different initiatives, and currently advises a tech venture at ALX Ventures Egypt, empowering Arab youth. Her exposure to USA and U.K. entrepreneurial ecosystems has deepened her insights, enabling her to support Pakistani and other South Asian entrepreneurs. As a fellow with the Bakery Worldwide in London, she leveraged her network to enhance program impact centered on extended reality. Yumna is committed to leveraging her exposure and experiences for inclusiveness and innovation to drive transformative change and empower the next generation of leaders, creating a lasting impact on the global entrepreneurial landscape.

Ninna Lego
Bio : Ninna Lego is the founder of House of Macnok , a sustainable and community-driven organization dedicated to cultural tourism and economic empowerment in Arunachal Pradesh. Ninna holds an engineering degree from Dr. MGR University and an MBA from Rajiv Gandhi University. With over 15 years of experience across diverse sectors, she has worked with Oil India Limited, Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic College, the Northeastern Council, and various governmental ministries, including the Ministry of DoNER and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
House of Macnok embodies her passion for sustainability and cultural preservation, empowering local artisans and promoting eco-friendly practices. Through initiatives like “Sunday for Future,” Ninna travels to rural communities, offering workshops that connect people to the rich traditions and crafts of Arunachal Pradesh. Her work not only fosters economic growth but also preserves and revives the unique cultural heritage and endangered art forms of the region.
Her achievements are numerous and impressive. Ninna won the Arunachal Entrepreneurship Challenge and was recognized among the top 10 entrepreneurs of her state. She further represented Arunachal Pradesh in the Northeast Entrepreneurship Challenge, where she placed in the top six and gained widespread recognition. Her entrepreneurial journey led to her selection for the US Professional Fellows Exchange Program, an honor highlighting her dedication to promoting indigenous crafts and sustainable practices on an international stage.
Moreover, she was named a top nine woman entrepreneur under the Pernod Ricard India Foundation’s Women Entrepreneurship Challenge and was recently chosen from over 2,000 applicants as one of the top 80 women entrepreneurs by NSRCEL at IIM Bangalore, where she is currently incubated. Additionally, she has been part of the IIM Calcutta incubation program, further strengthening her impact. Through her work, Ninna proudly represents Arunachal Pradesh, blending tourism and hospitality with initiatives that empower artisans and promote eco-friendly cultural tourism.

Prakriti Mainali
Mrs. Mainali is a pioneering social entrepreneur and co-founder of Shakti Milan Nepal, an upcycling social enterprise that creates sustainable bags from discarded materials. In addition to her entrepreneurial ventures, she operates a hotel based on the principles of the circular economy, women’s empowerment, and social justice.
Demonstrating her commitment to fostering entrepreneurship in Nepal, Mrs. Mainali serves as a Founding Board Member of the Social Entrepreneurship Development Fund under the Social Welfare Council. In this role, she helps shape the fund’s vision, identify best practices, and advocate for policy changes to cultivate a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country.
Mrs. Mainali has a proven track record of success and has received prestigious awards, including the National Youth Talent Award (Nepal), the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award (India), and the Social Entrepreneurship Award (Nepal).
Her academic credentials include a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Professional Fellows Program from the University of Oklahoma, fully funded by the U.S. Department of State.
A passionate advocate for social entrepreneurship, the green economy, and women’s empowerment, Mrs. Mainali is a sought-after trainer, mentor, and influencer. She has contributed extensively as a panelist and jury member at numerous events and is a regular media contributor on social, political, and economic issues. Her work has garnered significant recognition and has been featured in both national and international media.

Kapila Rathnayake
Mr. Kapila Rathnayake is a distinguished global activist, theater artist, and social media influencer, Spiritualist specializing in arts, gender, and masculinities. As the founder of Voices of Humans and the Save the knuckles social enterprise, he is committed to fostering inclusive dialogue and social change. Kapila holds a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Kerala, India.
He is actively involved with the global MenEngage Alliance and the Swedish Institute of Education, and he is affiliated with Kanthari International. Additionally, he is a professional fellow of the University of Oklahoma in the USA. Through his diverse roles, Kapila seeks to challenge societal norms and promote equity and understanding across various communities.

Elanie Steyn, Ph.D
Elanie Steyn is the associate dean for academic affairs at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Oklahoma. She is also the program director and principal investigator on the college’s U.S. Department of State grants with students, media professionals and entrepreneurs in several countries of South Asia. She joined this project shortly after relocating from South Africa to Oklahoma in 2007. Over the last 12 years, she had worked with partner organizations in seven countries to bring close to 250 participants on professional exchange programs. She’s had the privilege to see them do life-changing work in their communities and countries. This event is a celebration of these efforts.

Minhaz-Us-Salakeen Fahme is the author behind “How to Make a Game”, which was published under Apress- a Springer Nature company and he is the first and only resident Bangladeshi author of a published book in game development. He is the Co-founder and CEO of Battery Low Interactive Ltd. – a company that envisions making wishes come true. A decade into the business, his team has built mobile, PC games, AR/VR training simulations, and serious games with government and UN organizations for educational and training purposes. For the last 10 years, Battery Low has also been preaching technologies like Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality with their outreach campaigns to a million children who didn’t have access to these. His insightful perspective highlighted him on international platforms such as the Professional Fellows Exchange Program Spring 2023 (US Department of State and The University of Oklahoma), Kazan OIC Youth Entrepreneurship Forum 2022, Azerbaijan Investment and Culture Summit 2021, the 18th Arab Investment Summit, Bahrain, and OIC High-Level Public and Private Investment Summit, Istanbul. He also co-directs the indie game studio Sleepy Penguin Studios Ltd. Apart from being an entrepreneur and a game designer, he is a public speaker and loves writing fiction. He has conducted 50+ sessions on topics ranging from game development, XR, technology to leadership and entrepreneurship.

Rafee Mizan Khan Chowdhury, a seasoned digital marketer, tech enthusiast, and educator from Dhaka, Bangladesh, holds a Computer Science degree and an MBA in Marketing. Selected by the U.S. Department of State’s Professional Fellows Program under the University of Oklahoma, Rafee gained valuable insights into U.S.-based agency practices, collaborating closely with a leading marketing agency in Oklahoma to deepen his expertise.
As the Co-Founder and CEO of TEN’s 360 (www.tens360.com), Rafee has developed a dynamic, one-stop digital marketing agency that serves clients globally. His entrepreneurial journey began as a first-year student in 2013 with the launch of Dhaka’s first online poster shop, creating custom merchandise for events and music shows. This early venture evolved into TEN’s 360 by 2016, fueled by seed funding from BRAC University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED).
TEN’s 360 offers a comprehensive suite of digital marketing services, including social media marketing, digital media buying, brand strategy, web development, and merchandise branding, creating a seamless experience for clients by consolidating digital and offline branding needs.
Rafee is also deeply invested in education. He teaches digital marketing at local universities and on international EdTech platforms. As a curriculum designer and instructor for Learnio (www.learnio.eu), a Norway-based EdTech firm, he crafts digital marketing courses for students across Albania, Kosovo, Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, Mali, Ethiopia, Bhutan, Nepal, and various African countries. His teaching reach is set to expand to 22 African nations through strategic partnerships.
Previously, Rafee led the digital team at *Daily Bonik Barta*, one of Bangladesh’s leading newspapers, and he currently contributes to Strativ, a tech company based in Sweden. Rafee’s diverse experience reflects his commitment to advancing digital marketing both in Bangladesh and globally.

Tahira Sheriff, co-founder of Alengko Foundation in Sri Lanka, is a dedicated social worker and accomplished children’s book author. With a background in organizations like the United Nations and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, drawing from her experiences, Tahira founded the Alengko Foundation with the vision of fostering transformation and positivity among marginalized communities in rural Sri Lanka.
Her non-profit, Alengko Foundation, is focused on uplifting vulnerable rural communities living in poverty in the island. They achieve this primarily through livelihood development programs, education empowerment programs, and emergency relief initiatives; all while offering hope and opportunity with dignity to women, children and communities living below the poverty line who often go overlooked. Tahira firmly believes that even the smallest acts of kindness can lead to profound change. She channels this belief into her work within the non-profit, her literary creations, and her everyday life.

Ranjula Mendis is an educator, entrepreneur, and event planner passionate about creating meaningful experiences for children and communities. She is the founder of KidSpace, an early childhood education center in Sri Lanka that provides a nurturing, screen-free environment where children aged 12 months to 12 years can learn, play, and grow. Focused on play-based learning, KidSpace offers programs such as toddler play, preschool, school readiness, and themed activities, all designed to foster creativity, curiosity, and holistic development.
In addition to her work at KidSpace, Ranjula plans and organizes a variety of events, from children’s parties to weddings and other celebrations, ensuring they are memorable and thoughtfully designed.
She also takes on leadership roles within her community, serving as the Secretary of the Methodist College Old Girls’ Association and as the Superintendent of the Wellawatte Methodist Church English Sunday School, working with a dedicated team to support children’s faith journeys.
Ranjula was honored to be a Fellow of the Professional Fellows Exchange Program Spring 2023, an initiative by the U.S. Department of State and the University of Oklahoma, which enhanced her skills in community leadership and education.
